To reach the goal of earlier diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders, it´s necessary to establish new biological warning signs that can tell us when a disease process has started even though no clinical symtoms are shown yet. Such warning signs can be called biomarkers. Biomarkers can for example be measurable biochemical changes in the body, changes in the brain that can be identified with the aid of imaging techinques or cognitive changes detectable with neuropsychological tests.
